Selma Blair Trades in Long Locks for a Blonde Bob

The start of a new year welcomes endless opportunity for change. In some instances, it’s as simple as an amped-up workout plan or a positive mindset, and in others, it’s a new haircolor and drastic chop. Take Selma Blair for example—the actress recently cut her shoulder-length hair into a chin-grazing bob and brightened up her color thanks to colorist Lorri Goddard.

“Selma and I had a consultation and she wanted to go blonder (without losing all the depth of color) to complement her fresh new chop by Chris McMillan,”  Goddard says. Here, she shares how she achieved the color.

  1. Use a pre-thread technique with 3/4 6.11+ 1/4 5.11 L’Oréal Majirel 9-volume developer for global color application. After, paint out any grays and process for 40 minutes.
  2. Next, using a pony light technique, hold hair up in a ponytail. Next, section off two inches around the perimeter of the hairline, nape, ears, temples and forehead and clip away.
  3. Release ponytail and part your clients’ hair where they desire. Finely balayage sections a half inch from the scalp and pull through to the ends. Set reminders and check the highlights regularly. Remove with a towel and spray bottle filled with water once hair lifts.
  4. After the timer rings, rinse hair until the water runs clear. Then, use an all-over smudge technique with Pravana 7.1 30-volume (nape to the crown, and then hairline back to the crown).
  5. To finish, shampoo with Moroccanoil Color Continue Shampoo and follow with Moroccanoil ChromaTech POST treatment for 10 minutes to help repair immediately following the color service.
